Puyallup North is a charming census-designated place located in Pierce County, Washington, with an estimated population of 1,743 residents. Surrounding communities include Sumner on the eastern boundary, Edgewood to the north, Fern Hill and Waller to the west, and downtown Puyallup to the south. WA-167 highway runs east to west through the community of Puyallup North. Puyallup is about 10 miles southeast of Tacoma and approximately 35 miles south of Seattle. Puyallup has an estimated population of 39,659 residents and a total area of slightly more than 14 square miles.
Puyallup was named after the Puyallup tribe of Native Americans meaning “the generous people”. Puyallup has an oceanic climate with cool wet winters and warm dry summers. Summer highs are in the seventies most days. Puyallup is home to the Washington State Fair. The Washington State Fair is one of the ten largest fairs in the country and attracts more than a million people a year. The city itself is built around the fairgrounds. The fair runs approximately 21 days in September, and in April there's a spring fair that runs for four days. “Do the Puyallup” is a long-standing slogan used by local businesses and restaurants which support the fair and serve local residents. The downtown area is sprinkled with an amazing collection of art. Originally started as a rotating selection of outdoor public artwork, the collection now features 32 permanent pieces of art. Puyallup Farmer’s Market is held every Saturday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. and Sundays from 10 a.m.to 2 p.m., from early May to late October and features home grown produce, plants, crafts, and baked goods. Students in Puyallup North attend schools in the Puyallup School District. Pierce College, which opened in 1990, also calls Puyallup home.
