In the mid 1920s, the Seattle-Tacoma Land Company was organized for the purpose of developing 1,200 acres of land on the shores of Puget Sound between Seattle and Tacoma which would be known as Normandy Park. Within Normandy Park a yacht club, a golf course and two community beaches were planned. By 1929 the project had been platted and construction begun on the first home. The Great Depression brought a halt to construction. In 1934 much of the land passed into the hands of private owners. Normandy Park was rediscovered in the late 1940s and early 1950s and many fine homes were built. The community came to life in a vigorous way, and the city was incorporated in 1953.
Normandy Park is a gorgeous waterfront community on the shores of Puget Sound in King County, Washington. Normandy Park has approximately 6,500 residents and covers an area of about 6.68 square miles of which, 2.52 square miles is land and 4.16 square miles is water.
Normandy Park is bordered on the north by the City of Burien and by the City of Des Moines to the south. Currently, the city of Normandy Park has a recreation center and over 100 acres of parks, all of which are open to the public. There are two parks that are low-intensity nature preserves.
Normandy Park is a planned residential community with distinctive architecture in the French Normandy style. Residents in Normandy Park place highest priorities on providing and maintaining its quiet pedestrian-friendly setting and providing a safe and healthy environment for families. Normandy Park consists primarily of single-family dwellings on residential lots which vary in size from 7,200 square feet to several acres. Large lot sizes have helped maintain a scenic woodland atmosphere. Single-family homes start at approximately $199,900 and go up to as much as $2,900,000 for luxury, custom homes with stunning views in prime locations. Condominiums and townhomes in this vicinity of the Seattle area start at approximately $99,975 and go up in price to about $659,950 for units with more highly sought-after amenities. Lots start at around $40,000 and go up to $800,000 for parcels in the most coveted locations.
